Connecting an existing domain name to your Homadu website
Connect one custom domain alongside your Homadu subdomain. Homadu makes it primary automatically once hosting and SSL are ready.
What you need beforehand
You can use an existing domain name for your rental website. Make sure you have access to the DNS settings at the company managing your domain. Registering and renewing the domain remains a separate arrangement with that company; connecting it to Homadu is not a domain transfer.
Open Application in the sidebar. Under Domains, manage your Homadu subdomain and up to one custom domain. A pending or failed connection also counts towards this limit: remove it first if you want to use a different custom domain. Your Homadu subdomain is retained.
Making the connection
- Under Custom domain, enter the exact hostname, for example forestcottage.com. Do not include https:// or a path after the name.
- Copy the displayed A record and complete TXT verification value into your DNS provider’s settings.
- Wait until the DNS change is visible, then click Add in Homadu.
- Under Domains, check the connection status and certificate status.
- Once the hosting connection is Active and the certificate has been issued, your custom domain automatically becomes primary. Check your website afterwards.
Checking that everything works
Homadu checks whether the domain points to the correct server and whether the TXT record belongs to your account. The hosting connection is then configured and an SSL certificate requested. Adding the domain and the eventual certificate issuance are separate steps; refresh the overview later if necessary.
The connection applies only to the hostname you entered. forestcottage.com and www.forestcottage.com are different hostnames. Choose one; if you also want the other address to work, arrange a redirect with your domain provider.
Do not simply change your nameservers or email records. Follow the DNS details supplied by Homadu for this connection; existing email hosting does not need to move as a result.
