Using your domain with and without www

Choose the root domain or the www hostname for your single custom domain connection and arrange the other address with your provider.

Two addresses for the same domain name

forestcottage.com and www.forestcottage.com are different hostnames. Successfully connecting one address does not automatically mean the other also points correctly to Homadu or already has a valid certificate.

Homadu supports one custom hostname alongside your Homadu subdomain. Choose, for example, forestcottage.com OR www.forestcottage.com. The other address is not automatically added or given a certificate.

Prepare your chosen hostname

  1. Decide whether to use forestcottage.com or www.forestcottage.com as your website address.
  2. Open Application → Custom domain and enter only that chosen hostname.
  3. Configure the A and TXT details displayed by Homadu for that hostname and add the domain.
  4. Wait for hosting to become active and the certificate to be issued; the domain then automatically becomes primary.
  5. If you also want to use the other address, ask your provider to redirect it via https:// to the connected address.

Solving a problem with one address

If your connected address works but the other address does not, there is no second Homadu connection waiting to be activated. Check the redirect with your provider. Creating a DNS record alone does not provide an HTTPS redirect.

A forwarding setting at your previous provider is different from its own Homadu connection. Avoid conflicting settings where one address still points to old hosting or both addresses keep forwarding to each other.

Test your connected address and any redirect using https://. A certificate for forestcottage.com does not automatically cover www.forestcottage.com, or vice versa.
