How are service charges calculated? All charge types explained

A reference for all 26 charge types, explaining nights, days, people, pets and quantities.

The calculation’s starting points

Under Service charges, choose a charge type matching what you actually offer. For a stay from 10 to 13 June, Homadu counts 3 nights and 4 days. A daily rate includes the arrival and departure days; a nightly rate counts only the overnight stays.

For a person-based charge type, the number of people consists of adults and children together. Babies and pets are not included. Separate charge types are available for them. Per item uses the quantity chosen for the extra, within the configured minimum and maximum.

Included, security deposit and general amounts

  • Included: displays the service without extra costs; there is no separate price or quantity.
  • Deposit: counts once as a separate security deposit, outside the normal stay total.
  • Per stay: price × 1.
  • Per night: price × number of nights.
  • Per day: price × number of days, which is the number of nights plus one.

A cleaning amount of €50 per stay remains €50 for both two and seven nights, for example. A service of €5 per day costs €20 for three nights. Only use per day when you also want to charge for the departure day.

The seven charge types per stay

  • Per person per stay: price × adults and children together.
  • Per adult per stay: price × adults.
  • Per child per stay: price × children.
  • Per baby per stay: price × babies.
  • Per pet per stay: price × pets.
  • All pets per stay: one amount when at least one pet comes along; no amount without pets.
  • Per item per stay: price × chosen number of items.

With two pets, €15 per pet per stay therefore gives €30. With all pets per stay, the same price gives €15 for both animals together. Stay length does not change these amounts.

The seven charge types per night

  • Per person per night: price × adults and children together × nights.
  • Per adult per night: price × adults × nights.
  • Per child per night: price × children × nights.
  • Per baby per night: price × babies × nights.
  • Per pet per night: price × pets × nights.
  • All pets per night: one amount per night when pets come along, regardless of their number.
  • Per item per night: price × chosen number of items × nights.

An extra of €4 per person per night costs €36 for two adults, one child and three nights. A baby does not change this person-based amount. If you also want to charge for the baby, use a separate suitable service.

The seven charge types per day and the final check

  • Per person per day: price × adults and children together × days.
  • Per adult per day: price × adults × days.
  • Per child per day: price × children × days.
  • Per baby per day: price × babies × days.
  • Per pet per day: price × pets × days.
  • All pets per day: one amount per day when pets come along, regardless of their number.
  • Per item per day: price × chosen number of items × days.

Use the mandatory setting to determine whether a paid service counts automatically or is chosen by the guest. A type for an absent group, such as pets when there are no pets, produces no charges. Check your setup with several test selections on the booking page.

A validity period determines whether a service applies. If one overnight stay touches the validity period, the calculation then uses the entire stay for the number of nights or days. Homadu does not automatically apportion that service to only the overlapping days.
